Sweet Spot

We are in a sweet spot with the boys (ages 9, 8, 7) and are soaking it up as much as we can. They get themselves dressed, put their own bags together, buckle themselves in, carry their own things, bicker with each other but are still pretty nice to us.

We went to Fairmont Hot Springs Saturday and couldn’t help but think about the last time we were there. Ben wasn’t walking yet, and I had to stay with him/hold him in the pool. The other two weren’t even 2 & 3 yet, so you couldn’t exactly let them run loose in a pool. While it was fun, it was also exhausting. We were both 100% engaged with the kids the entire time.

While we do want to be engaged with our kids, obviously, it’s different when they are in this sweet spot. We throw a ball around with them, but can run to the bathroom without worrying about the other parent managing all three of them. The boys are also content to have us hanging around nearby watching them, not necessarily playing with them. Hello Hot Pool right next to the big pool!
